What should I be charging for non regional computer repair work?
Q. I work for a computer repair organization that offers me out of regional deals with extra compensation for my time. These spots are upwards of 90 minutes away from where I live and eat a considerable amount of gas and time. I have to work out a contract with them per region. How much should I be asking for? My flat rate is $30 per local job (which are usually very easy) but for long trip that involve travel and gas, what should I be charging when working out a contract? Well it is $30 dollars flat per local area. if I am out of the local 5 mile area, I get a travel fee bonus. I'm doing a about a 2-2.5 hour job today for $50 bucks for example, to cover my gas and a little extra on the side. I feel this is a little bit low personally.… [cont.]

A. I don't know where you're living, but I used to charge $60 / hour. I had a friend who charged around $90. From what I've seen $60 - $120 / hour are within industry standards. You don't want to gouge people, but I think $30 an hour is too low, especially for jobs that involve travel. If you put a high value on your work, others will, too. If you put a low value on your work, others will, too. [edit: I would have charged about $150 for a 2.5 hour job. My friend would have charged about $225. He used to scold me for charging too little! How much is a regional hospital expense?
Q. My father recently had a mild heart attack due to cholestrol and he was rushed to Saint Elizebeth's Regional MEdical Center in Boston,MA. We dont have medical insurance and he stayed there for a check up and not at the emergency. How much would a check up be?

A. Regional hospitals vary in their costs. If you have the opportunity to go to a state or university hospital, they often have programs to assist those people that don't have medical insurance. Check with your hospital to see if they have a fund to assist people like you, without insurance. Otherwise plan on spending $250 per hour that he was there, unless he was admitted. If he was admitted overnight, it will be less per hour but higher overall. Good Luck

What determines if an airport is considered Regional or International?
Q. I am a Flight Attendant for Delta Airlines and recently worked on a GPT (Gulf-port/Biloxi MS) to ATL (Atlanta GA) flight and noticed that they were calling GPT an international airport when in fact it doesn't have any scheduled airline service to an international city outside of the US. They also consider PFN (Panama City FL) an international airport. Pensacola has a way bigger airport big enough to use 757's and we call it a regional airport. Whats up with that?

The only thing that makes an airport an international airport (as opposed to a regional airport) is the presence of customs and immigration facilities at the airport -- if it has these facilities, it can be designated as an international airport.
